The Eigen Foundation is excited to announce the unlocking of the EIGEN token, igniting the future of open innovation and the EigenLayer ecosystem. 

What Does Unlock of EIGEN Mean?

The unlocking of EIGEN enables new opportunities for participation across the EigenLayer ecosystem, representing the deepest level of open innovation by empowering developers, stakers, and ecosystem partners to more fully engage with the shared security utility of EIGEN. Developers can build Actively Validated Services (AVSs) that leverage EIGEN staking. Stakers can actively participate in securing these services while diversifying the use cases and ecosystem partners can integrate EigenLayer’s security framework to enhance their protocols.

Key Highlights of the EIGEN Unlock

  • Transferability: EIGEN can now be freely transferred, traded, or staked, providing increased flexibility for participants across the ecosystem.
  • Open Innovation: Unlock empowers the community and developers to actively shape EigenLayer’s future by creating new decentralized services built on its flexible, cryptoeconomic security layer. This enables the development of AVSs that leverage the security of staked assets, expanding the potential applications in the ecosystem. 
  • Collaboration: EIGEN's transferability enhances opportunities among developers, builders, and early adopters by encouraging them to stake EIGEN for various execution and validation tasks.

As EIGEN unlocks, the EigenLayer community unlocks new opportunities for broader engagement and participation across the EigenLayer ecosystem. This moment is a catalyst for economic expansion through greater staking, governance, and protocol development. 

  • Explore Opportunities: Begin utilizing EIGEN for staking, governance, security, and new initiatives.

Looking ahead for EIGEN, Programmatic Incentives are coming up. This is a protocol feature providing programmatic EIGEN rewards to EIGEN stakers and operators for their active participation in supporting AVSs. In addition, we will be working towards the launch of AVSs that leverage intersubjective slashing, a key protocol concept introduced in the EIGEN Whitepaper.
