We, at the Eigen Foundation, want to start by conveying our thanks for your continued support.

We appreciate the valuable feedback we’ve received over the last few days! In this post, we address several community questions (lock-up countdown, timeline, and testnet users) and share our plans for additional EIGEN allocations to the community.

Additional 100 EIGEN to more than 280,000 users


We heard from many users worldwide who had to pay high gas costs to participate in the protocol. We want to ensure that users, small and large, have equal access. Before this, we had already earmarked a significant portion of a future season specifically to achieve broader distribution. In light of community feedback, we are accelerating this portion to Season 1!


100 more EIGEN will be added to all users who’ve interacted with EigenLayer before April 29th. 

This additional amount will be reflected in allocations claimed after May 10th. After simple Sybil filtering, all Season 1 users will receive a minimum of 110 EIGEN (floor of 10 EIGEN plus the boost of 100 EIGEN). Season 2 users who started staking between March 15th and April 29th will also receive the minimum of 100 EIGEN. To disincentivize industry-grade Sybil farms from abusing the protocol, we unfortunately can’t extend this to any users who stake after the announcement date (Apr 29). This disincentivization was a key rationale for the original Sybil-neutral distribution, but the feedback we got from real users weighed heavily on this revision!

Three Clarifications:

1: Lockup countdown starts AFTER transferability

Investors and the team remain in full lock-up for one year AFTER EIGEN is transferable for the community.  After that, they will unlock at 4% per month and finish fully unlocking three years after transferability. This ensures that the users of the protocol get transfer powers well before any core contributors can.

2: Timeline

Earlier this week, we announced that EIGEN will be unlockable after new features are live and further decentralization is achieved. However, we did not announce a date for enabling transferability. To provide clarity around timelines, these features are targeted for mainnet by September 30th, 2024. Decentralization and permissionless features enable transferring power to the community, which will have the power to vote and determine whether to enable transferability.

3: Testnet user allocation is coming

We are aware that certain testnet users were omitted from claims eligibility. Missed testnet user allocations will be updated as part of Phase 2 of Season 1. We will provide more details in the coming weeks.
